Specialist Inclusion Services Parent Drop-Ins

For Information

Parent/Carer Drop-In Sessions are free sessions. They are available for parents/carers of Barnet children and young people (0-25), to share any concerns or issues, with a relevant professional. It is a stand-alone session, so this means that there is no follow-up.  The aim of this session is to provide parents/carers with an opportunity to discuss concerns, and collectively think through how to move forward with the situation.

To access these sessions parents/carers must book a place, utilising booking form in the attached flyer in the enclosures section. Please return the forms to SEND.events@barnet.gov.uk.

Please share this information with your parent/carer community and distribute the attached flyer and booking form via email and display in your setting. The sessions can only be accessed through a ‘first come first served’ booking system. In order to achieve fair access to the sessions, it is important that this flyer is circulated to your parent community as soon as possible.

Barnet Council's General Budget Consultation 2018/19

For Information

We would like to hear views from Barnet residents and local community groups on our overall budget for 2018/19. In particular, we are giving residents the opportunity to comment on:

  • the overall budget for 2018/19
  • potential savings and/or income generation proposals that have been identified for 2018/19
  • the proposal to apply a three per cent social care precept to Council Tax in 2018/19 which will generate up to £4.9million to continue to help ease the increasing pressures on adult social care and care for the elderly and vulnerable adults
  • options for meeting the remaining £6.7 million budget gap for 2018/19, including Council Tax.

Meeting the challenge

The council faces an estimated budget gap of £40.7 million which we need to close by 2020. This is a result of reduced funding from Government, as well as increasing pressure and demand for our services due to a growing and ageing population. We have a mix of proposals to make savings or generate income to bridge this gap over the next two years, as well as using some reserves on top of proposals as a short term measure. This still leaves a budget gap of £6.7million to close by 2020.

Have your say

We are keen to give everyone – Barnet residents, residents who live outside the borough and who use our services, businesses, and local community groups – the opportunity to have their say on our proposals. We also want to give you an opportunity to suggest alternative ways that the council could meet the challenges ahead.

To tell us your views on the proposed budget, visit our Engage Barnet website which will host the consultation from 6 December 2017 until 14 January 2018.

Your views will help inform the decision on our budget for 2018/19, which will go back to Policy and Resources Committee on 13 February and Full Council on 6 March 2018 for final approval.

This consultation is in addition to service specific consultations which have already happened or will happen in the next few months which offer you the opportunity to comment in detail on proposals. You can find more information about all our consultations at www.engage.barnet.gov.uk .

If you have any questions regarding the consultation, or you would like to request an alternative format of the consultation please contact the Consultation and Research Team on:
