Early Help Services for Families Consultation

For Information

The council is proposing to change the way we organise and deliver Early Help Services for families in Barnet including:

  • Family Support Services
  • Children’s Centres and Services
  • Youth Centres and Services

Over the last eighteen months we have been reviewing our Early Help Services and the way we work with partner organisations that also provide services to help families in Barnet. This review has included feedback from the families who have used our services; staff and partners who work with our families; Ofsted, and looking at best practice in other areas.

This consultation seeks your views on proposals we have developed to improve Early Help Services so we can achieve the best possible outcomes for families whilst making best use of our resources.

In summary we are proposing:

  • To co-locate services for children and young people of all ages so they are accessible and delivered from more locations closer to the families they are serve.
  • To refocus and restructure our professional staff to work with children and young people of all ages thus focusing on the needs of the whole family.
  • To test options for delivering some of our non-statutory services (some of which we deliver to schools)
We want to give everyone, regardless of whether they currently use Early Help Services, the opportunity to have their say on the proposals before a decision is made. The consultation is open to anybody using or supporting a family to use Early Help Service and all our residents. It is also open to residents who live outside the borough and use our services . We also welcome feedback from organisations and individuals who work with children, young people and families;

Opportunity to have your say:

Please take the time to read our consultation document in the enclosures section and then give us your views on our proposals by completing the online questionnaire here.

We will also be holding public meetings where you can obtain more information, and where council staff will be on hand to take further feedback and answer any questions you may have about our proposals. For more information about dates, times and venues for these meetings and to book your place, you can find the booking link here
